About Me
What I do for money
Hey, I'm Alison Powers, an interactive designer at Nemours. My primary responsibilities include: using Adobe Creative Suite to create design comps, web page flow diagrams, and to crop and slice graphics for use on web pages, digital media, social media platforms and content management systems.
Previously, I was a print designer at The Florida Times-Union, Jacksonville's daily newspaper. I was responsible for all of the publication's features sections: Life, skirt!, H Health+Fitness, Taste and Jack, the TU's weekend entertainment tab.
What I do for fun
I take a variety of dance classes at the Beth Marks Ballet Arts Centre and Mark Spivak Institute & Dance Extension. I started taking ballet classes when I was five but quit when I attended journalism school at The University of Missouri - Columbia. Now, I'm taking 10+ hours of ballet, jazz and modern classes over a period of four days. In the fall, I participate in the Community Nutcracker, a production involving more than 200 Jacksonville ballet students and 60,000 children from area schools each year.
A lot of my free time is taken up with social media. I love Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare and Path. Not only do I handle my personal accounts, but I also maintain the social media coverage for Community Nutcracker and Beth Marks Ballet Arts Centre. You can read more about this on my resume page. :)
I love TV shows: Big Bang Theory, Dexter, Mad Men, Once Upon A Time and Glee. My top-plays on iTunes are Needtobreathe, The Chemical Brothers (For the Hanna OST), and Dave Matthews Band. Favorite movies in 2011: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, Moneyball and Contagion.
